Colorful Gum Bichromate

For the themed exposition on raw photography, Carole Moncoquet (biologist) chose a peek into the world of lesser known sea creatures that are not used to pose for the camera.

Using an underwater camera and an unpredictable combination of 2 different development techniques (bichromated gum with red pigment instead of the classic black, and cyanotype), she exposes the slumbering baby squid, pygmy seahorse, crab and nudibranches.

The result is an enigmatic and warm colour palette of unsuspecting creatures, far removed from our world of camera-ready behaviour.
