This series tells of melancholy, wear, and the irony of abandoned guardians. Far from the luminous, joyful, consoling, or youthful figure that populates our imagination, angels bear another truth: many of them are fatigued, disillusioned, sometimes even disenchanted. Guardians of the dead, the irony of fate is that they remain in place—nailed to the ground, static, silent witnesses to a world that passes by and no longer looks back. Frozen in their eternal vigil, they have stood watch, motionless, for decades, sometimes centuries. They have fallen not through revolt, but through weariness. Resigned, here, the angels no longer console. As bearers of breath, their marble silence resonates through historic processes, and in spectral light, their fragility is revealed. Velvety shadows and grainy textures evoke dust and transcend their obsolescence. This series invites us to reconsider our relationship to angels—and to the fragility of any belief in eternal servitude.

Monya lives and works between Brussels and Roubaix, and is continuing her genealogical and transgenerational research project. Through the prism of her Franco-Tunisian heritage, and through her research ventures, she gathers together elements of belonging. She sheds light on bonds and relationships through analog photography and historic photosensitive processes. This series, 'The Weariness of Angels', is an invitation to make contact with these beings, outside the context of the glorious figures conserved in our imaginary.
